VPS Healthcare, one of the fastest growing healthcare conglomerates in the UAE region, and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the oldest pediatric hospital in the United States have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU sets forth their mutual goals and objectives, as well as establishes a process to continue their discussions related to opportunities for providing a continuum of pediatric care for international patients treated at CHOP and establishing new standards of pediatric care at VPS hospitals and clinics. The MOU was signed by Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Managing Director of VPS Healthcare and Mr. Matthew Cook, Executive Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development, at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

“CHOP is very excited about the potential of a collaboration with VPS Healthcare and we believe that it will allow us to explore new ways to deliver superior care through more-effective deployment of pediatric sub specialties, something that is very much needed in the region. We know and value the efforts of VPS Healthcare in the region and its rich understanding of the market. CHOP’s commitment to pediatric excellence is known the world over and we look forward to developing a long and mutually-beneficial partnership,” said Mr. Cook.

“Keeping in mind the need of specialized pediatric services in the region, it is a wonderful opportunity for us to team up with an organization like CHOP, whose goal has always been to provide children with the highest quality and most advanced care,” commented Dr. Ali Obaid Al Ali, CEO - Abu Dhabi Hospitals, VPS Healthcare.

The signing of this landmark MOU comes at a time when UAE is in a drastic need of a rationalized approach to pediatric sub specialties. The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia has been one of the main destinations for UAE pediatric referrals including pediatric oncology, pediatric bone marrow transplant, orthopedics and cardiology.  Ms. LouAnn Westall, Vice President for International Strategy and Business Development, at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, said, “We have had several productive meetings and have begun to lay the groundwork for our collaborative efforts. We believe VPS is the perfect partner with whom to deliver the highest quality pediatric care to families in the UAE.”

When asked about the details regarding the MOU, Dr. Shamsheer Vayalil, Managing Director, VPS Healthcare, said, “It is a great step in the right direction for VPS. We cannot give much details at the moment but I can certainly tell you that the MOU broadly aims at setting up specialized pediatric / maternity hospital in Abu Dhabi, which will include preliminary consultation, visibility studies and expertise from key experts in pediatric sub specialties.”
